The new Andaz Mayakoba resort on the Riviera Maya just 30 minutes south of Cancun is the gated Mayakoba development’s 4th and final resort. Dense jungle, a meandering lagoon, miles of nature trails, and the world-class PGA El Camaleon golf course define Mayakoba and set it apart from many of the area’s other resorts. It’s a bit of a “hidden paradise”!
The chic new Andaz (Hyatt’s brand of lifestyle hotels and resorts) is a perfect addition to the Mayakoba resorts and a great complement to the existing Rosewood, Banyan Tree, and Fairmont. Andaz prides itself on sourcing local materials and designs to really evoke the local culture. From the moment you walk in and realize the entrance is designed in the image of a Mexican cenote, to the bright pops of color on the woven pillows in the your room, to the creative local cuisine.. you are in for a treat with a stay here!
I was grateful for the opportunity to explore the new Andaz Mayakoba recently on a girls trip with my 6 year-old daughter for Spring Break. The resort features two pools– one down by the beach which features an afternoon DJ, the other a complex of several adjacent pools on the lagoon and by the spa, fitness center, etc. One thing that really impressed me is how the Andaz caters to families and couples equally well. No water slides or characters here, but the resort does throw some fun oversized unicorn floats in the pool each morning (though I wasn’t sure if these were mainly for kids or adults, since all were enjoying them!)
Kids under 5 eat free, and all restaurants have kids menus, too. The four restaurants include Ollataco (beachside street food and tacossss!!!), Ollaceviche (a restaurant/bar by the beach pool), Cocina Milagro (their breakfast buffet and dinner service are both fantastic!), and Casa Amate (fine dining). (You can even go off property and dine at any other of the Mayakoba properties and charge back to your room at the Andaz. Another reason I love the Mayakoba development!) Finally, in addition to the restaurants here, the Andaz hosts fun food & beverage oriented activities such as tequila tastings, craft beer tastings, and cooking classes! Sign me up please..

The Cocina Milagro breakfast spread includes fresh tropical fruit, an omelette station, fresh-squeezed OJ machine, and local speciaties.. YUM!
For kids, the Andaz has a wonderful complimentary program called Kimbo, open daily from 9am. Fun activities await 4-12 year olds, including crafts like Mexican papalotes and dreamcatchers, Mayakoba ecotour, Spanish lessons, and treasure hunts. Best of all, you may drop off and pick up kids at any time during the day! The staff is especially kind with the children, and my 6 year-old daughter loved it (the birdhouse she made sits in her room today!)
Overall, the Andaz Mayakoba is a great choice for couples, families, or even a weekend getaway (I love that in Texas, we can have breakfast at home and lunch on the beach in Mexico- it’s that close!) Any questions about this property, Mayakoba, or Mexico in general- I would love to help! Fill out the form on the set sail tab.
