Before the arrival of our first child, I knew that I needed a babymoon, that is, a relaxing vacation to get away feel pampered before all the craziness of our new arrival ensued. I found The Cloister at Sea Island, Georgia to fit the bill perfectly- it was a short flight from DFW, on a beach, has beautiful grounds and a town nearby, and is also close to Savannah, GA so that we could combine the trip to include city and relaxation. Sea Island is actually equidistant from both Savannah, GA and Jacksonville, FL- 70 miles from each.
In existence for over 85 years and set on 5 miles of private beach, Sea Island is a haven for couples and families alike. There is a 65,000 Forbes Five Star spa, 3 championship golf courses, tennis, pools, and plenty of beachfront to play on! Sea Island is regularly ranked as one of the best places for golf in North America, and in fact, they host a PGA tournament here every fall, the McGladrey Classic. I did feel perfectly pampered and relaxed lounging at the pool by day and walking the beach when I needed a break. I saw many families here, likely bolstered by their Camp Cloister kids program offered seasonally. And they have the cutest little ice-cream parlor just off the pool that I indulged pregnancy cravings with, and at the same time, envisioned bringing our future children to enjoy.
The atmosphere felt relaxed country-clubbish, without being stuffy. The luxurious grounds and facilities were well-maintained and everyone offered service with a smile! And I must have been on to something.. Jenna Bush Hager just took a babymoon there herself last month. 🙂
Nearby St. Simon’s Island (only a few miles away) offers even more to do including restaurants, bars, and a mini-golf course! Our personal favorite was an old standby, Crabdaddy’s, a low-key place that serves up fresh seafood but is known for their bread pudding.. amazing!
Couples and families alike would love Sea Island! And if you book the the Cloister at Sea Island through me, I can offer you full breakfast for two, a $100 resort credit once per stay, and a room upgrade upon arrival when available.
